Dr Xavier Droux

Dr Xavier Droux completed his PhD at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Oxford. His research is focused on predynastic Egypt as well as both the role and significance that animals held for Egyptians at the time.

He has excavated at a number of fascinating sites in both Egypt and Sudan, and since 2003 he has worked at the site of Hierakonpolis, where he discovered the earliest above-ground funerary architecture in Egypt. He also found a well-preserved royal burial site at the predynastic elite cemetery HK6. In 2011 and 2012, Xavier was part of the team working on the redevelopment of the Egyptian galleries at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, and he also spent three study seasons at the National Museum of Khartoum for the reconstruction and conservation of a New Kingdom private stone statuary.
